About the Role
As an Actuarial Data Scientist, you will play an integral role in supporting actuarial analyses. Your responsibilities will include data sourcing, preprocessing, and statistical modeling. We are seeking a candidate with a strong proficiency in SQL and programming languages to effectively manage both routine tasks and more complex data analysis projects.
Our ideal candidate will bring strong skills in data manipulation and predictive modeling workflows, along with a desire to enhance existing analytical capabilities. Technical proficiency is crucial, as is resourcefulness in problem solving and the ability to remain resilient during challenging situations. Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required. Applicants with a concentration in Data Science, Computer Science, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Analytics preferred. Related post-graduate or advanced education is welcome.
Applicants with 3+ years of experience in data analytics, predictive modeling, or machine learning will be given preference.
Required Skills and Abilities
Proficiency in one of the following programming languages: SAS, R or Python.
Proficiency in SQL, with demonstrated experience writing and troubleshooting complex queries.
Experience with data preparation including exploring, sourcing, and preprocessing datasets.
Demonstrated ability to utilize statistical and predictive modeling concepts in applied data analysis projects, experience with GLMs preferred.
Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills for breaking down and solving multi-step technical problems.
Knowledge of P&C insurance data and systems preferred.

Full time role based at our Corporate Office in Raleigh, NC 27612
Reports to Senior Actuarial Data Specialist
Eligible for Hybrid schedule after 6 months of employment per company policy
Responsibilities of the Role
Source, clean, and transform data by utilizing applicable programming languages and tools.
Build, fit, and validate predictive models, including GLMs and other machine learning techniques, to support actuarial functions in areas such as pricing and retention.
Support ad-hoc analytics projects through data sourcing, exploratory analysis, and programmatic solutions.
Learn and maintain select legacy workflows while also identifying opportunities for modernizing processes through digitization, automation or migration to present-day technologies.
Communicate effectively with teammates to facilitate knowledge sharing and explanation of technical concepts.
Learn additional actuarial concepts, technology platforms, and coding languages as required.
Document code, processes, and data sources to assist in building an institutional knowledgebase.
